High Museum

My favorite work of art was Niagara Falls, by Regis Francois Cignoux. He was a french artist and he created this in the year 1855. It was my favorite because it was a beautiful painting. The colors used, and the realness of it all made it my favorite.

The work of art that I liked but would not take home was Heckyll and Jeckyll: Pleasure for the people. It was created by a man named Thronton Dial. This piece of art was put together very srtangly. It was just a bunch of things put together and painted a nasty color. I liked it because it was like no other I had seen, but it seemed to be pretty ugly.

The work of art that taught me something I did not know was actually not a painting or a picture at all. In each room there were squares on the walls telling you interesting facts. When we came across the Contemporary gallery on the top floor, there was information saying the reason it was on the top floor was the lighting I had to read more. It turns out that the special roof they have, with a certain light coming through, creates a harmonious enviorment for viewing the art. It said that they it was a special Skylight system that allows natural light to come through and make the paintings and wall hangings look that much better.

The work of art that felt sad to me was a display of armor fragments. They came from someone that hailed from the Qin Dynasty from 221-206 B.C. I felt sad because these men went out to fight for their country and had little to nothing protecting them. Whoever wore the armor in the Museum most likly did not survive a fight wearing that armor.

The work of art that identifies a historic moment in time was The model of the Imperial Palace. It was founded from 475-221 B.C. The emperor lived her and admistered state affairs from this place. He saw himself as the ruler of the whole cosmos, they say that a Palace is equivalent of the stars. It was made using wood sticks put together very carefully.

Claude Monet's Autumn on the ceine, from 1873 reminded me of my Grandfather. We used to go fishing all the time and seeing that boat on the lake made me think of him right away. I also liked the oil painting used for this particular picture.

The work of art that shocked me was Antonio Pisanel's Man seen from behind: draped in a cape and seated on a bench. You see a figure, that does not look like a man, sitting on a bench covered up in a drape. You see no arms or legs or anything at all that shows you that it is a human sitting there. all you know is what the title tells you. Without actually seeing the mean, it kind of shocked me to have no proof.

The Folk and Contemporary galleries different from all the others in one main way. They both used different lighting to show off the art work. Each one had facts on the walls about the lighting used in each of the two galleries. None of the other rooms had natural lighting or the lighting used for the folk art. They made it clear on the information that the lighting was the same for the rest of the galleries.

I took a trip to the museum on sunday March 8th. I went there expecting to be in and out in 30 minutes, get what I needed, and leave. Well I ended up staying for several hours making sure I did not miss one painting or sculpture. It was a very beautiful place with art work from all different times, an extreamly large amount of different artists, and many different levels and buildings to explore. I would have to say I enjoyed it alot more then I thought I would. so it turns out there is no one part I can say I liked the best. Seeing all types of different art in one day is something I wouldnt have ever done unless required. I am glad this was an assignment, because if it was not, I would never have experienced this type of artwork.

Extra Bonus: The name of the sculpture was The shade, 1880. It was bronze cast from orginal mold in 1968. 122 People lost their life on June 3, 1962. They were artisans and this statue stands out front remembering them.

Diaroma

I did my diaroma on the economy. For some reason I thought that we were supposed to write on the ones we completed ourselves. I did not take notes down to describe what someone else did. But the one that stood out the most to me was the one describing out soldiers at war. It has been a while since I have seen it and therefore can not write much about it. I wrote about mine as my first post.

Body sculpture

Our group decided to wear blue shirts and form a wave in the ocean. We all wore a different shade of blue to represent the different shades of blue throughout the ocean. The class knew what we were with in 5 seconds of moving back and fourth.

Dioramas

This diorama made me feel a little upset, and angry at the same time. Today, the economy is in a very bad place. People are losing jobs, savings, and stock values. I am a full time student and my parents pay for college and my housing. They want me to focus 100% on school and nothing else. When the stock market pretty much crashed alot was lost. To see my parents upset made me upset and angry. Thats why I felt like the Economy was something I could display well.

This taught me that money may not be everything, but it sure is a huge part in everyone's lives. I knew alot of people were affected by this, but not the the extream that I found out.
